About
Hi, I'm Katie!
I want to be a missionary, not because of anything I can do, but because of all that God can do. As a missionary, I want to learn to love Jesus more and more and incorporate that love into my daily life in a way that directs others to Him. I'm so excited for all that God has planned for this year.
I love my family, I love animals, I love nature, I love learning, I love people, I love my Faith as a Roman Catholic, I love that God is my teacher, and I love that God lets me love Him. So much love, yet, I am still learning to love and what that truly means. But that’s what life is all about!
I am absolutely amazed by the beauty of sunsets and the stars at night because it's one of the ways I feel incredibly close to our Heavenly Father. I enjoy music and love to dance as well! Some of my other favorite hobbies include making rosaries, volunteering, baking cookies, watching the sun set, arts and crafts, riding bikes, unprofessionally dancing, and learning about different cultures by visiting places around the globe.
I grew up in Fort Loramie, Ohio, USA. My hometown is small, home to approximately 1,500 people. I grew up in a family of six on a farm in the beautiful countryside. My parents are Vernon and Amy, and my siblings are Laura, Megan and Jason. I am the third daughter in our family, fitting right in the middle between Megan and Jason. I truly believe that family is one of God's greatest blessings.
Growing up, my favorite hobby was taking care of the animals on our farm. I got to care for lots of little creatures such as piglets, cats, dogs, chickens, rabbits, fish, guinea pigs, gerbils, birds, and a variety of abandoned baby animals that we tried our best to foster. I had fun at the county fair each year, I played the flute, volunteered with my church often, and was a cheerleader on the football, basketball, and competition cheerleading team at my school. I went to youth conferences and became very interested in my faith. After one conference in particular, I listened to a speaker share his experiences in Haiti and efforts to assist people in need. After that lecture, I desired to do the same!
Before my senior year of high school, I traveled to Haiti on a mission trip, and it was the beginning of God working beautiful changes in my heart. After high school, I attended college at The University of Findlay. I studied to earn an undergraduate degree in Animal Science, but it was my experiences outside of the classroom that truly changed me and allowed me to learn more than I ever could have imagined. During my first semester, I realized that I wanted to serve God with all I had. I wanted to be a missionary. I worked to complete my Bachelor's in three years with an open heart to God's service. During my three years as a college student, I was blessed to work, take classes, fulfill student leadership positions, volunteer within campus and the community, travel abroad, gain internship experience, build new relationships, and most importantly, grow in faith and learn more about our Heavenly Father. I was blessed with opportunities to travel to different countries with a service-minded perspective which allowed my desire for missionary work to grow even more.
My senior year of college, I discerned where I would be serving after graduation. The first semester was stressful and chaotic, but the following semester I applied to be a NET missionary, and God opened doors that I didn't even realize existed. I am beyond excited to fulfill this role that God has called me to.
It all happened so quickly, but not quite as smoothly as it all sounds. Life changed for me when I was a freshmen in high school. I was 14 years old when I stood face to face with death. I was in a real serious car accident with my bother and sister. It was a miracle, by the Grace of God, that I was alive after the accident; that we were all alive. I was taken in a helicopter to the hospital where I got 32 stitches in my forehead, while my brother and sister went in an ambulance. The accident was scary. God has a way of taking tragedies and bringing beauty of any situation. That's exactly what He did for me and my family.
God used that experience to change me. From a tragic car accident that left marks on my worldly body, my soul was changed. Long moments of unconsciousness brought life to me; life with purpose. God used that experience to say, "Katie, I want you. I need you to do something for Me." From then on, I knew I needed to live every day for God and work to glorify His Kingdom. After that experience, it seemed that many other things seemed to change and fall perfectly into place.
I knew God wanted me to work for Him, I just didn’t know exactly how or where. For a long time I thought I would serve domestically and peer to peer, but God led me away from that path. I was drawn to the idea of serving in a place where I could speak Spanish, so I searched to find a perfectly fitting opportunity in Central America. Again, God led me in a different direction. How? In addition to a series of events, I simply woke up one morning, sat straight up in my bed, and thought, “I need to look up NET Australia right now.” I looked it up, found myself filling out an application, an interview quickly followed, and everything just fell into place before I knew what was really happening. Within about a two-month time frame, I felt the sudden urge to research NET Australia, apply to be a missionary, was interviewed, was asked to serve on team, and said yes. Wow, God is very good and His timing is perfect.
Now… I am a 22 year-old who has fallen in love with Jesus Christ and desires so strongly for every single human being to know and experience the love that God has for His sons and daughters. I have every intention of spending the rest of my life on this earth doing my best to serve God, despite the times I have and will fail Him. I’m passionate about fighting the Good fight and building God’s army in the daily battle we are fighting. I’d like to invite you to join in fighting the Good fight. Brothers and sisters, we are not Home yet. Please, do not stop fighting until we are all Home.
I've had opportunities to serve the Lord domestically and internationally and have seen such beautiful things unfold. I am beyond excited and grateful for the opportunity to serve for the glory of His Kingdom in the upcoming year as a NET missionary in Australia. Thank you to all of the amazing individuals who have helped make this possible, I could't do it without you.
Thank you for taking the time to read about me and the mission I am a part of. I pray every day for many different intentions. Now, I am happily praying for you, too! Please keep the NET missionaries in your prayers as you have conversations with our Father. May the God of Love and Mercy be in your heart daily and may you feel His comforting presence.
Love Always,
Katie
